Disentangling Complex Systems
Designing better food futures with and for people, place, and planet.
We help you navigate complex systems and create transformational change for a more regenerative and equitable food system.
Food system change requires us to design with complexity, as food intersects with so much our daily lives. The system is a web of interdependencies or economics, agriculture, land rights, health, social mobility, education, and so much more. Our creative research-based tools and facilitated workshops bring knowledge to the surface and help visualise complexities often hidden beneath the surface.
Areas of Practice
System Mapping
Data VisualisationData mapping is our most valuable research output as it visualises and make tangible notions and insights that often sit beneath the surface. Things that are usually felt more than fact. Narrative mapping enables a diversity of experiences and perspectives to be gathered and analysed laterally and without indentured politics and hierarchies.
Community Engagement
Fieldwork and Data CollectionWorking with communities with lived experience is what brings this work to life. We facilitate engagement work with communities that is inclusive, accessible, and thoughtful. We use embodied methods with low barrier materials to invite people from all walks of life into the research work. Everyone gets a seat at the table and a space to share their experience.
Generative Design Sessions
Creative ConsultationGathering data is one thing, but making it tell a story or inform a trajectory is another. We have over 10 years of professional design consulting experience, specialising in service design, business development and innovation across sectors. We use creative tips and tools to bring life to the evidence that guides the way.
“We must learn to stay with the trouble – it requires learning to be truly present – as mortal critters entwined in myriad unfinished configurations of places, times, matters, meanings.”.”
– Donna Haraway, Staying with the Trouble
Get in Touch
With offices in the UK and Germany we work across the continent to address systemic complexity by working in relationship with civic partners, communities, special interest groups, and industry professionals. Bringing everyone to the table yields exciting and sometimes challenging results, but we think that’s where innovation flourishes.
